TIPTREE HEATH V BURY TOWN RESERVES (18-10-03) (Report by Chris Ward)

On yet another bright sunny October afternoon Bury Towns second string visited Tiptree Heath looking to continue the good run that had only seen them defeated once all season. Back into the team came Dave Wilson after a neck injury and 16-year-old Rocky Holt was given a starting place up front.

Bury’s early dominance nearly paid off when Holt looked to be tripped inside the box, although referee Farthing indicated to offence took place outside and Clements wasted the free-kick. Bury did take the lead after 15 minutes when Wakes’ quick through ball caught out the Tiptree back-line and found Holt who gave Lewington no chance with his finish. Bury were further ahead soon after when a poor clearance was seized upon by Agricole, he crossed for Murphy and the Bury striker made it four goals in as many games to put Bury two nil ahead. Bury’s third after 40 minutes was a carbon copy of the first goal when Wake and Holt combined for the latter to score his second of the match.

Despite no further goals in the second period, Bury continued to play some cultured football throughout. Tiptree for their credit persisted to forge for openings past a very stubborn Bury rearguard but Clements and Wilson stood firm and Jones dealt with some teasing crosses very well. Holt should have completed his hat trick in the closing moments but his shot was deflected behind.

Result
Tiptree Heath 0-3 Bury Town Reserves
